Washing Powder & Liquid

Bio contains enzymes that break down protein, starch and grease, so it works well at low temperatures. Non-bio has no enzymes, which is why it's the usual choice for sensitive skin, eczema and babies' clothes — though it generally wants a slightly warmer wash to match.

Eco detergents leave out optical brighteners. Those don't clean anything: they're fluorescent dyes that coat the fabric and make white look whiter under daylight. Leaving them out is why eco-washed whites can look marginally less bright and are actually just as clean.
